At Bishop Fox’s we are committed to preparing our students for the world of work. We therefore have Business and Enterprise as an integral part of our curriculum and our extra-curricular activities. All of which takes place in our Business and Enterprise room which is furnished with a suite of computers and laptops for the students use.
In Year 9, 10 & 11 students can choose from a choice of Business Courses, GCSE is on offer alongside BTEC First Awards, giving students, whatever their learning style, an opportunity to follow a Business Course. The great thing about these qualifications is that they give learners a more in-depth look into how business works. Additionally, they employ an analytical, evaluative and investigative approach. Allowing students;
* Better preparation for further education and careers through understanding business
* Increased motivation through analytical, evaluative and investigative approaches
The student must complete all three units.
Unit 1: Controlled assessment (25% of marks) – Students research a business issue and compile a report to make suggestions for the appropriate course of action for that business.
Unit 2: People and business exam (25% of marks) – Students study the importance of recruitment and selection, employment law and trade unions. They also look at business start-ups, business structure and changes in industry in the UK.
Unit 3: Production, finance and the external environment exam (25% of marks) – Students study methods of production, methods of finance and external factors that impact business such as exchange rate, interest rates and competition.
A BTEC First in Business can help students take their first steps towards a career in the business world. You’ll learn essential skills such as business enterprise, project management, selling and promoting a brand, and financial awareness, from planning to making a profit
The BTEC First Award is a vocational qualification at Level 1 and 2. It is the equivalent of a GCSE grade A*- E. Students are graded by the grading of either a pass, merit or distinction (highest achievable).
All students engage in “Conference Days” each January and April where the timetable is suspended and “Business Challenge” becomes the order of the day. Students work alongside local business people and are encouraged to take risks, be enterprising, work collaboratively and pursue competitive goals.
B and E Club
Students from year 7 and 8 get the opportunity to take part in several enterprise opportunities over the year through BF’s B and E club. So far this year they have decided to design a calendar highlighting some of the fabulous images from last year’s Kenyan expedition, featuring Kiraro Day School. They also are designing their own coffee brand and planning a stall for Bishop Fox’s Christmas Fair. All this in the first term!
