Melvin Burgess visit to Bishop Fox’s School

As part of World Book Day celebrations, acclaimed author Melvin Burgess visited Bishop Fox’s School to deliver talks and workshops. Melvin has won the Carnegie Medal for Literature, as well as the Guardian Childrens Fiction Award, and is a huge name in teen fiction. He spoke to Years 7 and 8 about his books and the writing process, and took a range of searching questions from both groups of students. He also ran a creative writing workshop with some Year 10 students. A book signing took place at lunchtime with Brendon Books of Bath Place. Literacy Coordinator at the school, Liz Harvey, who arranged the visit said: “Melvin Burgess’ visit was fantastic. The students were enthralled by his talks, and they were queuing out of the door for the book signing event. There was a real buzz around school, and it was great to see the students so engaged with books and reading.”
